If you're a parent in Hastings, St Leonards or the surrounding East Sussex area and you're interested in babywearing, you might be wondering where to start.
Perhaps you've got a carrier already and aren't quite sure you're using it correctly.
Perhaps you're expecting and trying to work out which type of sling might suit you.
Or perhaps you simply want to know whether a baby carrier could actually make everyday life a little easier. The good news is that babywearing can be incredibly useful for everyday life in Hastings – from a walk through Alexandra Park to a trip along the seafront, getting to a baby group, doing the supermarket shop or navigating one of the town's busier events. And you don't have to work it all out by yourself.

Babywearing support in Hastings & East Sussex
Little One Snug is based in Hastings and supports families across Hastings and the wider East Sussex area with babywearing consultations, sling hire and practical carrying support.
My aim is to make babywearing feel less overwhelming.
There are so many different carriers available that it can be difficult to know what is actually going to work for you. A carrier that your friend loves might not suit your body.
The carrier with hundreds of glowing reviews might feel completely wrong for you.
And the sling that looks complicated online might turn out to be the one you absolutely love. That's why I encourage families to try, explore and get support where they need it, rather than feeling they have to get everything right immediately.
You can find out more about babywearing consultations in Hastings or sling hire and the Hastings Sling Library if you'd like to explore your options.
Where can you babywear in Hastings?
One of the things I love about babywearing is that it doesn't have to be a special activity.
Your sling can simply become part of how you get around. Here are some of my favourite types of places to consider around Hastings.
Alexandra Park
Alexandra Park is a brilliant option for a babywearing walk.
It's a huge, varied park running through Hastings, with gardens, woodland, open areas, water features, playgrounds and cafés. There's plenty to explore.
The terrain isn't completely flat, though, so the carrier you choose can make a real difference to how comfortable you feel.
It's also worth remembering that conditions can change with the seasons.
A beautiful sunny woodland walk in summer can feel very different after a wet winter! Read my guide to babywearing in and around Hastings' best walking spots
Hastings seafront
A sling can be incredibly handy for a trip to the seafront. Especially if you're planning on going on the shingle!
Think about:
Sun and heat in summer
Windier conditions
Keeping baby protected from the elements
What you're wearing
How much walking you'll actually be doing
Whether you'll be going in and out of shops or cafés
For summer, a lightweight carrier can be particularly useful, but remember that babywearing itself adds warmth, so dressing both yourself and your baby appropriately matters. You can read more in my guide to babywearing in summer and my tips for babywearing in rainy or windy weather.
Which carrier is best for getting around Hastings?
There isn't one answer. And that's actually one of the things I want local parents to know.
You might find that you love a ring sling for quick trips.
A buckle carrier might be your favourite for longer walks.
A woven wrap could give you the flexibility you want for different stages.
A stretchy wrap might be perfect during the newborn months.
Or you might discover that a half buckle or Meh Dai gives you the combination of comfort and adjustability you've been looking for.
If you're not sure where to begin, you might find my guide to choosing the right baby carrier helpful.
Try before you buy in Hastings
One of the biggest mistakes I see parents make is assuming that they need to buy a carrier before they can get help. You don't.
Through the Little One Snug sling library, local families can try carriers before committing to buying one. This can be particularly useful if you're not sure what style you want. Instead of buying something because it looks good online and hoping for the best, you can actually find out how it feels on your body with your baby.
And if you've already bought something, that's fine too. You can bring your own carrier along to a consultation and we can work with what you have.
Babywearing consultations in Hastings
Sometimes you don't need another carrier.
You just need someone to help you work out the one you've already got.
A consultation can be useful if:
Your carrier doesn't feel comfortable
You're unsure whether your baby is positioned correctly
You've bought a carrier and can't work out the adjustments
Your baby has grown and things no longer feel the same
You want to learn a new carrying position
You're expecting and want to prepare for carrying
You want to explore different carrier styles
You're ready to try back carrying
You have particular circumstances that mean you want more personalised support
My 1:1 babywearing consultations are tailored around what you actually want to achieve. There isn't a requirement to arrive knowing exactly what you need.
That's part of what I'm here for.
What areas around Hastings do I cover?
Although Little One Snug is based in Hastings, I support families across a much wider area of East Sussex as I offer home visits. This includes other towns such as:
St Leonards · Bexhill · Battle · Icklesham · Rye · Heathfield · Crowborough · Eastbourne · Hailsham · Pevensey · Polegate · Uckfield and more!
If you're outside my typical travel area an online session may be an option.
Babywearing in Hastings doesn't have to be complicated, and support can make things feel easier still!
You don't need to be an expert. You don't need an expensive carrier.
You don't need to know all the terminology. And you definitely don't need to copy what somebody on Instagram is doing. Babywearing can simply be another way of getting through your day.
A walk around Alexandra Park.
A trip to the seafront.
A baby group.
A supermarket run.
A busy town event.
A woodland adventure.
Or just getting from the car to the front door while your baby sleeps.
Happy Carrying

Every baby, every parent, and carrier is different!
Articles like this can answer general questions, but they can't check your fit / comfort, adjust your sling or tell you whether your baby is positioned comfortably and safely.
That's exactly what I do during support sessions.
Ready to get started and you're ?
Ok, but I'm not Local, and I'd benefit from more Support!
