✔ You're local or planning on visiting hastings with a small child
✔ You're thinking about what sling(s) you might need for a hilly town
One of the things I love most about babywearing is how it helps families get out and enjoy everyday adventures. While pushchairs are brilliant in many situations, there are plenty of places around Hastings where popping your little one into a sling or carrier can really make life feel much easier. Whether you're heading out for a walk, meeting friends or exploring somewhere new, here are some of my favourite local places where babywearing really comes into its own.

🌳 Alexandra Park
Alexandra Park is one of my favourite recommendations for new parents.
The wide paths are ideal for gentle walks, but there are also woodland trails, bridges and little areas that are much easier to explore with a baby in a carrier than a pushchair.
It's also a lovely place to meet friends for a coffee while your little one enjoys being close enough to watch the world go by. Convenient for free parking too!

🌲 From parks to woodland adventures
Uneven paths, tree roots, mud and steps are often tricky with a pushchair, whereas babywearing lets you enjoy the adventure while keeping your little one safe, close and comfortable. It's also a wonderful way for babies to experience the sights, sounds and fresh air of the outdoors from the security of being carried.
🌊 Hastings Seafront / Old town
The promenade is wonderful for a stroll, but if you've ever tried pushing a buggy across shingle or navigating busy summer crowds, you'll know why a sling can be such a lifesaver.
Babywearing leaves your hands free for an ice cream, a coffee or helping older siblings while your baby enjoys the sights and sounds of the seaside. The cobbly streets of the old town aren't necessarily the easiest to navigate with a buggy either!

🐠 The Aquarium
Hastings Aquarium is another fantastic place for babywearing.
The darker environment and narrower walkways can sometimes make manoeuvring a pushchair awkward, whereas carrying your baby allows you to move around comfortably while helping them take in all the fascinating fish and sea life.

🚗 From the home or your car to baby groups
One of the times I use a sling most isn't on a big adventure—it's for everyday life.
Popping your baby into a carrier for the short walk from the car to a playgroup, café or appointment can be far easier than unfolding a pushchair for a journey that only lasts a few minutes. Sometimes the simplest uses end up being the most valuable.
🌿 West Hill & East Hill
West Hill and East Hill offer beautiful views across Hastings, but they also include steps, uneven paths and woodland trails where a carrier often feels much more practical than a buggy. If your family enjoys exploring nature, these are wonderful places to make the most of babywearing.

🏰 Hastings Castle
Newly opened Hastings Castle is a great place to pop little one up if you want to get up high and/or help tired legs!

🛒 Supermarket trips
Not every outing needs to be exciting!
Babywearing can make supermarket shopping much easier, particularly if your trolley is already full or your little one isn't keen on sitting in the seat.
It also frees up the whole trolley for the weekly shop.
🎪 Markets, fairs and local events
Local markets and craft fairs are much easier to enjoy when your little one is happily snuggled up close. Babywearing also means curious little hands are less tempted to investigate every stall you pass!
🎉 Big Hastings events
Hastings is famous for its incredible community events, including the annual Jack in the Green celebrations, Pirate Day and Carnival, which attract thousands of visitors each year.
While these events are fantastic for families, they can also become extremely busy.
A comfortable baby carrier often makes it much easier to move through crowds, watch parades and enjoy the atmosphere without worrying about navigating a pushchair.

🚜 Tibbs Farm
If you're happy to venture a little further afield, Tibbs Farm Cafe is another lovely family destination. With animals, open spaces and seasonal picking activities, it's somewhere that many parents find much easier to explore while babywearing, especially if little legs get tired or paths become muddy.
Thinking about trying a different carrier?
For quick trips, many families love a ring sling or something lightweight and compact.
Longer walks might suit a supportive buckle carrier or woven wrap, while parents of older babies often enjoy the convenience of a hip carrier for those constant "up-down-up-down" days. If you've got a holiday, festival or family day out planned, sling hire can be a great way to try a different carrier before buying one.
Final thoughts
One of the biggest joys of babywearing is that it makes getting out feel that little bit easier.
Whether you're wandering around Alexandra Park, enjoying fish and chips on the seafront or exploring one of Hastings' brilliant festivals, having your little one safely snuggled close often means you can focus less on the logistics and more on making memories together.
And that's what babywearing is all about.

Happy Carrying,
